My screened porch project is finally finished!
During the depths of Covid I decided in November, 2020 that I needed a place in my home where I could get fresh air. Homes in the south are built for air conditioning, not fresh air. So I decided to add a screened porch to the back of my home. By starting in November, I hoped to be sitting on my porch in late spring.
I used the winter months to get the preliminaries out of the way. I found a contractor who helped me get my ideas on paper. I secured approval from my neighborhood association and applied for the necessary building permits. Then I waited. Unfortunately, because of any number of reasons, my contractor was backed up and ultimately did not start my project until late May. One of the bad things about a delay in a construction project is that it gives you time to think of more stuff to add to the project. In my case, I added a stone patio to enhance and extend the screened porch.
Once they began, I thought it would be a quick project, but suffice it to say, I was wrong. I won’t bore you with the details, but the construction on my porch which began in late May is only now finally finished!!!
Now that the delays are behind me, I must admit, I love my porch and patio. It is a tranquil place where I can think deeply. I call these thoughts my Peaceful Porch Pieces.
I had fun decorating the porch with an aim to make it blend into the landscape. Green is the operative word on my porch. The one thing I was determined to have was a porch swing, and I was fortunate enough to find one in green wicker with matching green wicker rocking chairs. A dining table completes the furnishings. The rest of the decor is plants and more plants.
Once the landscaping is installed in December, my oasis will be complete and perfect for Peaceful Porch Pieces.
