Coffee Time

Coffee Time

Coffee is an important joyful part of my life. I start each day with a cup. I collect exotic coffee when I travel. I am a loyal customer of Starbucks. So it is not surprising that I make coffee themed quilts from time to time.

“Coffee Time” was started at a quilt retreat. I did not know it would turn into a coffee quilt, but the color palette demanded it.

I wanted something easy and relaxing to work on at the retreat between quilt games. I took a package of precut brown and cream fat quarters with me. I decided to use the Crazy Eight pattern because it is easy and only requires 8 fat quarters.

Once I finished the pattern, I knew the quilt needed something more. I added 3 borders including a pieced border. To create the coffee theme, I appliquéd the words ‘coffee time” in the border of the quilt. I also appliquéd patches of coffee fabric throughout the quilt.

My friend Maxine Moore quilted “Coffee Time” with a motif that includes circles. It gives the illusion of steam coming from a hot cup of coffee.

The back of the quilt is brown, cream and geometric. There is a hanging sleeve for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.

I signed it on the front and added a charm that says “I’ll take a coffee with my sunshine.” I love that!🥰
