Scarlet Lady Love

“Scarlet Lady Love” is a small art quilt created using the Siddi method of quilting used by quilter in India of African descent. It is created by sewing fabric patches from the outside border row by row until you get to the middle. Kawandi quilts are usually scrappy.
 
“Scarlet Lady Love” measures 19 X 23 inches. I named it “Scarlet Lady Love ” because I created it so that I would have a hand project to work on while cruising on Virgin Voyages ship The Scarlet Lady. I included “love” fabric in the quilt to carry out the theme.
 
I used white Pearle cotton thread to stitch the quilt because I wanted the stitching to show and become part of the design element. As is the case with all Kawandi quilts, there is a triangle of fabric at each corner of the quilt.
 
The fabric on the back of the quilt is a black and white African print. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.
 
I signed it on the front and added a “love” charm.
 
This quilt is one-of-a-kind.
