Seeing Red (Things That Make Me Mad)
Seeing Red (Things That Make Me Mad) is a departure from my usual quilts of joy and gratitude. For a brief moment in time I allowed myself to vent.
Red is a good color to turn to when you want to vent. So I turned to my stash of reds and chose prints that I thought would be somewhat chaotic when placed together. However, true to my theory about life, something good emerges from some of life’s darkest, chaotic moments.
So what do you think of the 12 red choices? There are plaids, African, curves, etc. There is no complicated piecing as I wanted the fabric to speak.
Of course I added words to guide my viewer to my message. I thought about things that annoy me and appliquéd words to the quilt. Things that annoy me include cowards, kings and winter.
Seeing Red (Things That Make Me Mad) measures 50 X 54 inches. It was machine quilted by Maxine Moore.
The back of the quilt is a red and white fabric that is supposed to look like blood splatters. It is aptly named “crime scene.” It seemed perfect for a quilt about being made as hell.
There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.
I added a printed signature label on the front and added a peace charm that will hopefully remind me to seek my mental happy place.
