Stars Over the Allure of the Sea

Stars Over the Allure of the Sea

Over the Allure of the Seas was started on a quilt cruise that I took with my best friend Rosalind and my daughter India. The cruise was sponsored by Stitchin Heaven Quilt Shop in Texas. We departed from Galveston, Texas and sailed the Western Caribbean on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas.

During the cruise, we took quilt classes, and this quilt is the result of a class taught by Marilyn Forman. She chose the pattern and the fabric.  The pattern which is named “Changing Ways” allows the quilter to make several different quilts simply by rotating the blocks. I chose the layout that created stars, because I love star quilts.

The array of blue batiks are beautiful and probably chosen to capture the ocean, but I thought they needed a splash of color to capture the beauty of cruising through the western Caribbean on Royal Caribbean’s The Allure of the Seas. I added colorful floral fabric in the center of the stars and used the same fabric for the binding. Still not satisfied that the quilt was capturing my joy on the cruise, I added aquamarine crystals to the stars. That did the trick for me. Now this quilt sparkles!

“Stars Over the Allure of the Seas” measure 58 X 58 inches. It is machine pieced and quilted with hand sewn binding. Maxine Moore did the beautiful machine quilting on her long arm machine.

The fabric on the back of the quilt is a bright blue and yellow African print. Again, my nod to color. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents  the quilt. I signed it on the front.

We had a wonderful time on the cruise, and this quilt will always be a happy memory.
