A cold snap in Atlanta reminded me that I never properly introduced you to My Christmas Wish. If you follow me, you know that I love the Christmas season. It is one of my favorite times of the year. As part of the festivities, I try to make a new Christmas quilt each year.
My Christmas Wish is my 2022 Christmas quilt. It is inspired by the Turning Twenty pattern. It is red and white, because as you know, I was totally immersed in red and white quilts as I prepared for my first solo exhibit Long Time Coming: A Retrospective of O.V. Brantley's Red and White Quilts.
Even though My Christmas Wish is only two colors, it is rich with depth and interest because of the the various reds that include African fabrics, words and traditional reds. I added texture by hand quilting it in Perle cotton and gold metallic thread.
The fabric on the back is a red and white rail fence motif with red snow flakes. There is a hanging sleeve on the back and a label that documents the quilt. I signed it on the front.
This quilt is sure to become a family heirloom. She will come out every Christmas and strut her stuff.
