30 Days of 30 Red and White Quilts: My exhibit includes 7 angel quilts that hung from the ceiling during the premier exhibit. Each angel is named for a female descendant of my grandmother Clara who was a quilter.
I am so excited that my solo exhibit of red and white quilts will entertain the world at the @quiltfestival’s International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX November 1- 5. The exhibit entitled Long Time Coming: A Retrospective of O.V. Brantley’s Red and White Quilts features red and white quilts I made over a 20-year period plus 27 ceiling quilts. They document my background growing up African-American in the segregated South, my professional career as a lawyer, and my time as a mother. The quilts also highlight my life as a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority and my views on social justice issues of the day. The exhibit also showcases my collection of red and white fabrics acquired during extensive travels. Join me for a gallery talk at 11 a.m and 2 p.m. 11/2-11/4.
Shown is my quilt Brittany Angel, great granddaughter of Clara, granddaughter of Evora, daughter of LaJetta and my niece. 😇👧🏾🌅🖼🙏🏾
