Give Yourself Flowers

“Give Yourself Flowers”, 28 x 31 inch applique quilt by O.V. Brantley, 2010.

This is the first quilt in my “Give Yourself Flowers” series. The point of the series is be a reminder that I should do what makes me happy and not wait for someone else to do it. I followed my own advice by co-founding the Atlanta Quilt Festival. The Atlanta Quilt Festival is a month long celebration of African American quilts. It happens every August. Flowers, indeed.

So, August is my happy month. It was not always that way. I made it so. Now, my August is filled with quilts, quilters, quilt classes, quilt vendors and trunk shows. That makes me happy.

What have you done lately to make yourself happy? Always “Give Yourself Flowers.” Do not wait for others to do it.

The quilt shown is the first quilt in my “Give Yourself Flowers” series. Since then I have made many “Give Yourself Flowers” quilts. I think I will start the next quilt in the series today — lest I forget. After all, now that the Festival has ended, I have the time.
