Introducing I Climbed the Great Wall With India

In 2016 India and I traveled to China with Craftours. The crafting was memorable. We learned to paint in a bottle, paper cutting and beading. We shopped for silk fabric and visited the pandas. We visited Tianniaman Square and rode in a rickshaw. But the biggest highlight of the trip was climbing the Great Wall. I never got around to making a memory quilt for our trip to China until I ran across a Great Wall panel. Then I made 2 China quilts, one for India and one for me.

I Climbed the Great Wall With India, 48 X44 inch memory quilt, by O.V. Brantley, 2024. Machine quilted by Maxine Moore. NFS.

I named my quit I Climbed the Great Wall With India. As mentioned, the center of the quilt is a printed panel of the Great Wall. After borders were added, the quilt measures 48 X 44 inches. I think the words and the charm I appliqued onto the quilt capture the essence of the quilt. Words include “dare to dream, “dream big,” and “fearless.” We were a long way from home living fearlessly our dream.

The quilt was quilted by Maxine Moore on her long arm.

Back of I Climbed the Great Wall With India

The back of the quilt is an African print. I try to include African fabric in all of my quilts if it works. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.

I signed it on the front. This quilt is one-of-a-kind and a wonderful memory.
