The City of South Fulton, Georgia will celebrate Juneteenth with an art exhibit that opens June 20th. My quilt Celebrating the Beauty of Freedom will be part of the exhibit. Since Juneteenth became a national holiday, I have added to my collection of Juneteenth quilts each year. Happily, I usually find places for my older Juneteenth quilts to exhibit as more and more people celebrate Juneteenth.

Celebrating the Beauty of Freedom is wholly machine pieced including the letters. The colors in the 44 X 49 inch quilt — green, red, orange, yellow and black— are the colors now associated with the Juneteenth holiday. African strips are a nod to life before enslavement. The plaid fabric was purchased on a trip to St. Lucia.

I quilted Celebrating the Beauty of Freedom on my Janome sewing machine and embellished it with black buttons. The hand sewn binding captures the colors of the quilt.

There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display, and a label that documents the quilt.

I signed it on the front and added a charm that reads “Live Free”.

The exhibit at the Southwest Arts Center. Continues until July 19th. The Center is located at 915 New Hope Road, South Fulton, GA and is open daily 9 - 5 p.m. Free and open to the public.
Happy Juneteenth!
