Celebrating Black History Month by Creating a John Lewis Quilt

Today I started seriously researching and planning my 2024 John Lewis quilt. The Atlanta Quilt Festival will complete its trilogy of John Lewis quilts this year with an exhibit entitled Getting Into MY Good Trouble -- Continuing the Legacy of Congressman John Lewis.

I started by reading his book Carry On - Reflections For a New Generation. I hope it will spark an idea for a quilt that expresses my Good Trouble. I have no idea where this will lead, but I am enjoying the journey.

The quilts I created for the original exhibit are Good Trouble Library and He Inspires Us With His Words and Deeds. That exhibit is still traveling and will be in Montgomery next month to coincide with the annual Selma Jubilee bridge reenactment. The exhibit will be housed at the Civil Rights Memorial Museum and runs through April 27, 2024.

If you are interested in submitting an entry for the new exhibit, visit AtlantaQuiltFestival.com for details. The exhibit opens August 2d and runs through August 25th at the Southwest Arts Center Gallery, 905 New Hope Road SW, South Fulton, GA. Please plan to check it out.
